Peek at Volpaia, 15″ x 22″ original watercolor painting by Linda Abblett.
Volpaia is a small village in Tuscany, Italy. The winery that produces the Chianti Classico wine operates within the walls of the Castello di Volpaia, a fortified village of medieval origin. Its main claim to historical fame is as the home town of the della Volpaia family of clock and instrument makers. The most famous were Benvenuto and Lorenzo, the latter being a friend of Leonardo da Vinci and famous for having been commissioned by the Medici to build the planetary clock of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, a copy of which can be seen at the Museum of the History of Science in Florence.
Linda lends us her eyes to show us a pretty vignette she spotted while sightseeing there — a screened window encircled by a flowering vine. A more subtle variation on the details of light and shadow that Linda Abblett defines so nicely to add visual drama to an everyday scene. The original painting and giclee prints in the same size as the original and half the original size are available.
