Lapsed Delivery, 15″ x 22″ original watercolor painting by Linda Abblett. As much a montage as a still life, this painting portrays the idea of mail taking too long to reach its destination with a collection of letters from around the world surrounding a weathered old red and blue mail box. Letters and mailbox alike are treated with great care to detail to depict the signs of aging. A bunch of wilting yellow tulips cast long shadows as they drape over the post box, bringing the thought home. Perhaps a tribute to chronic lateness and procrastination? The humor is certainly there, but we can just as easily interpret the artist’s message as a wistful sentiment from one longing to hear from friends and family in other parts of the world. Soft red and blue predominate in this piece, accented by yellows and white. The original painting and giclee prints in the same size as the original and half the original size are available.
